Temecula's Wine Country Welcomes you!!!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do you have a weight limit?

A: NO!  Most trail ride companies have a weight limit, but we do not.    While some of our horses can only carry a limited amount of weight, we have 1,800+ pound Percherons and other large Draft horse mixes that can carry any rider!  As long as you are fit and able to ride, we will take you!

Q: Do you have any age restrictions?

A: Ages 7+ can ride our horses on the open trail.  Ages 5+ can ride in the arena.  Any age can ride in our horse drawn wagon!

Q: Do you offer any private horseback wine tours for just two people.

A: Yes, we offer the Lover's Tour.  Since this tour is just for you and your special guest, we can make it as long or as short as you would like, to allow you extra time at each winery.

Q: How big of a group can you take at the same time?

A:  We can take up to 12 people at a time.  However, most groups range in size from 4-8 people. If you have a larger party, please let us know and we may be able to accommodate you.  Also, our party wagon that can carry at least 20 people is a great option!

Q: How far in advance should I make a reservation for a wine tour, trail ride or lesson?

A: The more advanced notice you give us, the more likely you are to get your first choice on date and time.  Sometimes you can call the day that you would like to go and we might have availability.  Other times you might have to book more than a week out.  We are here to service you and we will do our best accommodate your requests.  We can also put you on our standby list!

Q: I keep calling and it keeps going straight to voicemail, or I have had to leave several messages.

A: Your call is important to us!!! We are currently experiencing high call volumes and are working hard to expand our call center operations.  We will call you back!  Another good way to reach us is through our email at saddleupwinetours@gmail.com, which we constantly have open on our computers and phones!

Q: What is your cancellation policy?

A:  Fortunately for us, we are very busy.  This means that if you have a reservation, whether it be a wine tour, trail ride, or lesson, most likely we have had to turn someone else away who wanted that same date and time slot.  Also, a lot of preparation goes into your horseback riding experience (reservations at the wineries, scheduling of your guides, preparation and transport of your horses etc.) If you are coming in for a lesson, that is one less horse that we can use for a wine tour that day. Please be courteous to our business by giving us a 48 hour notice so that we can accommodate other guests who requested the same date and time.  Any vouchers bought from a specialized site that are cancelled within 24 hours will be forfeit!

Q: What age are your wine tour guides?

A:  Currently our guides range in age from 21-34.  But this varies from season to season as we bring in more guides during the spring/summer.

Q: What age and experience level are your trainers and instructors?

A: Our instructors/trainers range in age from 25-55 years old.  We have instructors who have competed at Horse Congress (the largest open breed horse show in the United States), as well as instructors who various certifications and have shown/judged at the top levels of competition.  We have instructors who have run their own professional training businesses and even have a former professional harness racer that raced on live TV! One of our instructors If you are looking for a specific type of instructor, and we do not have it, we will use our professional contacts to help you find what you are looking for!

Q: How long are your trail rides?

A:  Our trail rides can be as long as you like them!  We have a one hour, two hour, three hour, four hour, and five hour trail for you to ride.

Q:  What should I wear?

A:  We recommend that all riders wear long pants as your legs will get rubbed in shorts or capris and then you'll know what saddle sores are!  Closed toe shoes are an absolute requirement.  Anyone not wearing closed toe shoes will be turned away!  Flip-flops, high heels and steel toe boots are not allowed for your safety.  Hats can be carried with you or with us in our saddle bags or safety vehicle as they might degrade the effectiveness of your helmet.

Q:  What should I bring?

A:  If you bought your service through a specialized site such as TravelZoo, Yelp etc. please bring a hard copy of your voucher as cell phone reception can be diminished at the Wineries.  During the cold months, you should bring warming layers that we can put in our saddle bags or in our safety vehicle.  During the warm months you should bring sunscreen.  We recommend putting all personal items in our saddle bags or safety vehicle so that you do not lose or damage them on the trail.  Any item that you bring with you on the trail is at your own risk and Saddle Up Wine Tours will not compensate your loss.

Q:  Is there any food at the wineries?

A:  Our Wine and Dine Tour in which you eat at The Restaurant at Leoness Cellars, is offered on Friday, Saturday and Sunday only.  Our Lover's Tour provides a gourmet catered meal from The Gambling Cowboy to be enjoyed at a private candlelit location at Keyways Winery on any business day at an additional cost.  Our Historical Wine Tour stops at Oak Mountain Winery which has a homemade gourmet pizza company on Saturdays and Sundays only for an additional charge.  We are happy to give you our company discount.  Most of the wineries have some sort of snacks along the lines of cheeses and meats at an additional charge.

Q:  Can children and minors accompany your wine tours?

A:  Yes!  We have special pricing for anyone that will not be consuming alcohol.  Remember that children ages 7+ can ride on the open trail.

Q:  I've never ridden before.  It there a tour that's right for me?

A:  Our horses are well trained, experienced and gentle mounts.  We will match you with a suitable equine partner for the day.  Any of our tours are suitable for beginner riders except for the Mountain Adventure Tour, which is for intermediate to advanced riders only due to the technical trails and faster pace.  We give you a safety brief and teach you the basics of riding then let you practice in the arena to get comfortable before we head out on the open trail.
